In rural areas in Kenya, the literacy rate is still too low in some places. Although attendance at elementary school is theoretically free, there is often a lack of teaching materials for the children. Together with our partners from Stawisha Africa, we want to equip a room to become a learning and reading room for children from socially disadvantaged families, where they can do homework, read, learn and borrow books. To this end, we are bringing English-language children's books to Kenya and supporting Stawisha in furnishing the room.
Who benefits?
The offer is aimed at children from socially weaker families who do not have the opportunity to study in peace at home. The room can be used by students from different schools in Ngiya and the surrounding area. The idea is that by improving their reading comprehension, the children will be able to achieve a better school-leaving qualification and thus have opportunities for higher education and better jobs in the long term.
