The journey to Manekharka
Today we went to Manekharka. In a jeep we drove 62km long in serpentine into the mountains over mogul roads with small rivers, seemingly insurmountable puddles and stuck buses. In Bahunipati we made a short stop to check the condition of the oven from the previous project. We were positively surprised. Except for the waste separation, which seems to be more in Nepali style, it works well and the infectious waste seems to be safely incinerated. Also the people on site were very satisfied. After a small lunch we reached Manekharka after 6 hours.
About one hour after us, the truck with the stones and cement sand arrived. Now we had to bring 400 stones up the mountain and over the fence to the foundation. The motivation of the Nepalese was absolutely impressive. Within a very short time, people from everywhere were came to help. The entire hospital staff, whether laboratory technician, nurse or doctor, helped and even the neighbour from across the street and others from the village pitched in. A human chain was formed very fast and until it got dark nobody gave up the fight against the material. Except for the sand, of which unfortunately only half has made it so far, everything is now well stowed away and ready for construction.
Afterwards we all sat together with a hot rice liquor diluted with water, also called aairakh, and snacks. In this sympatic group we felt directly at home and are looking forward to the next days.
