Update: 13th May
Planning, Planning, Planning!
And working!
We started with finishing up several Nebulizers and sucction machines. Labled the ones that did not have a number and brought them back. Then we were of to the dental clinic. It feels good to see the chair still standing and functioning to perfection. We opened the bottom cover and checked all the connections, did some explaining to Günther ( german dentist) and the electricians and told the stories of it’s construction. Then we discussed what to do with the new dental room. We found a solution though that did not involve ripping open the entire floor again. Got that!
Next was the new maintenance department. The administration wanted to construct a completely new building. A huge one. We looked at the situation with our experience from the other workshops and made a realistic estimate, made it possible to give them a 3×6 meter room without having to construct a new building. In a small meeting with electricians and the Administrator we all felt very happy with it and called it done.
After feeding the crocodile with some rice and chicken in stew, we went back to check if our inventory list was up to date. Well kinda, the wards keep stealing nebulizers form each other and do not bring them to the MD when they break. They just pick up a new one. So we keep finding them everywhere in various states of decay. We can fix most of them easily though. With Quame(oldest electrican) we spend the entire afternoon checking ward by ward, device by device. We still have two places to go but that will have to wait till tomorrow!
After work we went outside to look at the town. Pretty small pretty place. We bought some soft drinks and a fruit juice. Exchanged some words in twi. Enjoyed the evening the sun. After words there were fries for dinner and some good stories from our two german flatmates.
