About the Project
Situation
Berekum is located in the north-western Bono region of Ghana. The Holy Family Hospital there has 138 beds and around 300 employees. TeoG projects have already been carried out several times at this location, including the introduction of the TeoG Swift App in 2022 to document maintenance and repair work.
Eikwe, a small town on the coast, has the St. Martin de Porres Hospital with a capacity of 175 beds and 200 employees. This hospital has also been visited by a TeoG team in the past for the maintenance of medical equipment
Ho is located in the Eastern Volta Region of Ghana. A new local regional group was recently founded at the University of Health and Allied Science.
Project content
During our three-week project assignment in Ghana, we visited three locations for one week each. The Holy Family Hospital in Berekum was the start and the focus, whereby we also included the medical staff with the newer report system as a supplement to the TeoG Swift App already introduced in 2022. There was also an introduction to the TeoG Swift app for the two new technicians. In addition, we were able to gather feedback on daily use, see how the app is integrated into the technicians' daily routine and strengthen the collaboration between TeoG and the hospital. Our second stay was in Eikwe at St. Martin de Porres Hospital. This hospital was also visited by Hospital Support a few years ago, but no further contact was maintained due to poor organization. The current project was a preliminary investigation to find out to what extent the situation has changed and whether cooperation with TeoG would be possible in the future. Unfortunately, there still seems to be no functioning documentation system for the medical inventory, as well as a lack of medical technology knowledge and support from the technicians. As a result, broken equipment is repaired or relocated by external companies. There is still a lack of a basis for TeoG to provide sustainable support. Finally, we spent a few more days in Ho to deepen our newfound contact with the regional group there. Together with the RG Ho, we presented TeoG at the university there and at the three hospitals in Ho. The teaching hospital made a particularly positive impression on us, so that it could possibly represent a new project location for Hospital Support in the future. Another advantage is that by getting to know RG Ho, we now have a local project partner on site.
