Borehole regeneration and repairs in Dodo Amanfrom

About the Project

Two members of our regional group Accra, Beatrice Yaa Afihumah and Nurudeen Ayubeogo Akaamah, regenerated six boreholes in communities of Dodo Amanfrom with the ecofriendly chemical Wessoclean to enhance their water flow rate. In addition, broken seals were replaced in 4 of these wells. The project has significantly improved the water supply for about 3500 people. Access to clean and safe drinking water is a fundamental human right. In Dodo Amanfrom, boreholes are a primary source of water. However, many communities in this area face challenges in accessing potable water. Research was conducted by Beatrice in 2024. The results of this study indicated that the boreholes require regeneration to improve their water yield. Moreover, the unbalanced pH level of the water samples poses a risk to the health of the community members. Beatrice and Nurudeen took a three-day trip to implement borehole regenerations with Wessoclean. The first step was to inform the community members to fetch water down, since the implementation of the wissoclean takes 24hrs before the members can have access to the boreholes that are been regenerated. This process was assisted by the assemblyman and Mr Wisdom who is a member of the community. A total number of 7 boreholes were selected for the regeneration but because of some constraints we faced during dismantling the boreholes that were already working, we were able to regenerate 6 boreholes. During dismantling of the boreholes for the regeneration, we found out that four boreholes’ seals were totally damaged. We replaced them before regenerating these boreholes. The successful rehabilitation of the 6 boreholes in Dodo Amanfrom community using Wessoclean has significantly improved access to clean water for about 3500 people. Our team efforts have not only restored the functionality of the boreholes but also ensured the water quality and the flow rate of the boreholes has improved, reducing the risk of water– borne diseases. Finally, community members were educated on the importance of proper borehole maintenance and the risks associated with poor water quality.
